Tuesday 6th February 2018 is Safer Internet Day. A day, celebrated globally, when over 1,700 organisations across the UK delivered activities to encourage everyone to use the internet in a safe and respectful manner.
The slogan for 2018, ‘Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you’, was brought to everyone’s attention this morning during an assembly led by the Online Safety Committee. During the assembly, Chloe, Sophia, Clementine, Luke, William and Sophie shared some online scenarios. They asked their audience to judge the behaviour within the scenarios by either: raising their hands in the air (Great! A really kind thing to do), putting their hands on their hips (I’m not sure this is okay) or crossing their arms (This isn’t a kind way to behave online). It was encouraging to see that the reactions from the children demonstrated a high level of respect which, hopefully, crosses over to their own internet use.
The Online Safety Committee concluded their informative assembly by pointing out ways in which we can all ensure we are a good friend online:
Be kind and respectful
Check before you share
Ask for help
Each class has continued to learn about the different aspects of safer internet use during the rest of the day.
