Russet Class Blog
Autumn Term 1
Weeks 3 and 4
It has been another busy and enjoyable couple of weeks in Russet Class! We have been really proud of the children, who continue to show such perseverance and enthusiasm towards their learning.
In English, we have started our new unit on recounts. The children have been exploring the features of a good recount and worked carefully to annotate an example together. We are now looking forward to putting everything we have learnt into practice when we write our own recounts next week.
Science has been particularly exciting as we investigated how water travels through a plant. Using roses in a vase, the children made predictions, observed what happened and thought carefully about how water moves through the stem to the rest of the plant.
In RE, we have been exploring how nature and the seasons are important within Christian worldviews. We discussed God as Creator, harvest and stewardship, and thought about why Christians may feel a responsibility to care for the natural world.
Both Year 3 and Year 4 have been working hard on place value in Maths, with Year 4 preparing to move on to addition and subtraction next week. In History, we have continued our Long Ago Lands topic by investigating fascinating Egyptian artefacts, while in PSHE we have discussed why we have different rules in different environments.
Another fantastic fortnight, Russet Class. Keep up the brilliant effort and enthusiasm!
Russet 26 - 27 Autumn 1 Weeks 3 - 4
Weeks 1 and 2
The children have settled really well into Russet Class and have made a fantastic start to the new school year. It has been lovely to see them approaching their learning with such enthusiasm and positivity.
We have now started our new topic, Long Ago Lands, and the children have been fascinated by the Ancient Egyptians so far! In English, we have begun reading our class text, The Ancient Egyptian Sleepover, and have been busy becoming Word Detectives, identifying nouns, adjectives and verbs within our writing.
In Art, we travelled even further back in time to explore cave art. The children loved looking closely at different examples and discussing which pieces they preferred and, most importantly, explaining why.
Our new Science topic is Plants, and we have started by learning about seed dispersal. The children enjoyed discovering the different ways seeds travel and why this is so important for plants.
Another highlight of the week was starting our swimming lessons on Friday. Everyone approached the session with great enthusiasm and we are looking forward to seeing their confidence and skills develop over the coming weeks.
It has certainly been a busy start to the term, so Russet Class have definitely earned a well-deserved rest this weekend. Well done, everyone, for such a brilliant start!
