Russet Class Blog
Term 5
Weeks 5 - 6
The last two weeks of Summer 5 have absolutely flown by in Russet Class and the children have continued to work incredibly hard whilst enjoying a wide range of activities across the curriculum.
A real highlight was preparing for May Day celebrations. The children practised in all sorts of weather conditions, from single digit temperatures and torrential rain to glorious sunshine on the actual day itself! Despite the unpredictable weather, Russet Class danced beautifully and should all be extremely proud of their efforts and determination.
In Art, the children loved creating their own Islamic tiles using acrylic paint. They carefully applied the geometric patterns and symmetry skills they have been learning about to produce some truly stunning designs. We cannot wait to display them for everyone to see!
In Maths, Year 3 have now moved on to the topic of Time and are enjoying learning how to read and interpret clocks more confidently. Meanwhile, Year 4 continue to persevere brilliantly with decimals and are showing great resilience with this challenging topic.
In English, the children were fascinated by the life of Cleopatra and particularly enjoyed writing their own newspaper reports about her death. In History, we explored inventions from the Ancient Civilisation era and discussed how these innovations changed people’s lives.
Sports Day practice has also begun, with the children enthusiastically practising their skills on the back field in preparation for the exciting weeks ahead.
We hope everyone has a wonderful half term and enjoys the promised heatwave!

Weeks 3 and 4 have been incredibly busy in Russet Class and the children continue to impress us with their effort, determination and enthusiasm towards their learning.
In History, the children thoroughly enjoyed learning about early mathematical systems and discovering different ways people counted in ancient times. They particularly loved taking part in a bartering activity where they exchanged items such as chickens for bags of grain, helping them understand how trading worked before money was invented.
Our Islamic Art project has continued to inspire the children creatively. Using star templates, the children designed their own beautiful geometric patterns, carefully thinking about symmetry and repeating designs to create eye-catching pieces of artwork.
In RE, we had some fantastic discussions and debates about whether it is possible to be a Christian online. The children also found it fascinating to learn about the 5 Ks that Khalsa Sikhs wear and why they are so important. Many children remembered our KS2 trip to the Gurdwara in Coventry a couple of years ago and enjoyed sharing their memories of the visit.
In Maths, Year 3 have now completed their Fractions topic and are enjoying learning all about money, while Year 4 are challenging themselves brilliantly with decimals, which they are surprisingly loving!

The finished pieces are informative, detailed and beautifully presented, we are very proud of the effort they have shown.
In Maths, we have been concentrating on Multiplication and Division, and the progress has been brilliant. The children are becoming increasingly confident when recalling their number facts and applying them to problem-solving tasks. We have also introduced Times Tables Rock Stars and Anton, which have been met with great excitement! These platforms are already helping to build fluency and confidence, and it has been fantastic to see such motivation.

Ali Baba and the Bongo bandits!

What exciting and memorable evenings our KS2 production of Ali Ba Ba and the Bongo Bandits turned out to be! The hall was buzzing with anticipation and the children certainly did not disappoint.
A huge well done to Russet Class, who put in a superb effort with their singing. Learning the songs was no easy task. The lyrics were tricky to remember, the rhythms were challenging, and coming in at just the right moment took real concentration. Despite this, the children rose to the challenge brilliantly. Their confidence, teamwork, and musical timing really shone through on the night.
Throughout rehearsals and the final performance, the children showed fantastic focus and enthusiasm. Their perseverance in practising and refining each song paid off, resulting in a performance they should be incredibly proud of. Seeing their hard work come together on stage was a joy for everyone watching.
Congratulations to all the children involved. You were stars! 🌟

Roman Day! (Weeks 3 and 4)
Russet Class enjoyed a fantastic Roman Day, led by our very own Roman visitor, Geminus! The children were captivated as they explored real Roman artefacts and learned about the differences between rich and poor burials. They tried on armour, discovered Roman battle techniques, and examined the clothing worn by citizens and soldiers. Everyone was fascinated (and sometimes surprised!) by Roman food, drink, and even their unusual washing habits. It was a fun, hands-on day that brought history to life and left the class feeling like true young Romans!
