Forest School ignites children’s innate capacity to learn through unstructured play in nature.
Research now backs up what forest school practitioners have known all along – that children and young people are stimulated by the outdoors and typically experience, over time, an increase in their self belief, confidence, learning capacity, enthusiasm, communication and problem-solving skills and emotional well-being.
Forest School at Ilmington sets learning in a different context for children where they can undertake a range of practical activities and carry out small achievable tasks.
We have two fully qualified Forest School practitioners on our staff team, Mrs. Yeates and Mrs. Pinfold. The children in the Early Years and KS1 have weekly sessions in the Forest school guided to engage with nature, explore, create and be curious about the natural world.
In KS2, we venture further afield with camping and Bushcraft days and residential experiences where learning in the wilderness and experiencing the 'Great Outdoors' further enhance the children's 'wild side'!
