Week 8

This term, I have introduced suggested timings for each activity to reflect a typical school day. Each morning, there will be a phonics lesson via YouTube to begin the day. Children can then complete the English and Maths activity from the weekly booklet and the extensions detailed below. In the afternoon, you can select an activity from the Term 6 Topic Document above. Remember, the red activities are compulsory as these focus on reading and writing skills.

Week 7

Next term, home learning will continue. Each week I will upload a Maths and English booklet to be completed daily. I will also include a Maths and English extension (see Friday's document below) to add an optional learning opportunity for parents who would like more challenge. I will also include a link to an online phonics lesson that will take 30 minutes each day. This will allow children in Year 1 to recap sounds taught in phonics lessons. Whilst this is aimed at Year 1, many Year 2 children would benefit from being exposed to these sounds again.

Instead of having one overarching theme for the learning, you will be given topic document with seven different themes (which can be completed in any order). Each theme contains six lessons covering extended writing, art, d.t., history/geography skills, reading comprehensions and an outdoor lesson.

This week, all Maths and English work can be found in a downloadable pdf above. The pdf includes one Maths and one English lesson a day. I will also include the guidance and answers book which give tips on how to further support your children during each lesson.

As it is the last week of the term I will include five topic activities for you to be getting on with in case you have already worked through the 20 I gave you at the start of the term. Of course, some of these activities may have taken more than a day so feel free to pick and choose which ones you would like to complete.

Week 5

This week I would like to begin by thanking Barney's Auntie, who lives in Kenya. She has taken the time to make a video exploring the differences between Kenya and England for Barney and has allowed me to share this on the school website. Please do watch the video, it is incredibly interesting and links perfectly with our Sensational Safari Topic.

Remember, there will be no work set this Friday as it is a Bank Holiday. I look forward to seeing you all again on Monday.

This week our whole school and community would have come together to celebrate the end of Jesus's life on Earth and His new life in heaven with God. Class 2 would have performed an Easter song and retold the story of Easter.

I hope you have an enjoyable Easter. I've included a few Easter crafts and activities in Friday's home learning pack for those of you who would like a few things to do during the next two weeks. Term 4 Topic/Art

Have you seen the children's wonderful art work based on the Great Fire of London. The children used strips of black sugar paper to create these fantastic period houses. They then created dazzling flames to add to their house.

Class 2 have loved learning the song 'London's Burning' in their weekly music lessons with Calypso Kids. They have learnt how to play parts of this on a variety of instruments with a focus on pitch.

Term 4 Topic/ English

Class 2 have begun the term by recapping all of our prior learning about the Great Fire of London in preparation for writing an information booklet about it. Some of the activities included organising events into a correct timeline, reading a variety of non-fiction books about the topic and writing a newspaper article about the event.

Term 3 Science

Class 2 have been learning about materials this term in Science. We have explored whether a coat would make a snowman melt quicker or slower. To test this we wrapped ice lollies in thick and thin materials and compared how quickly they melted.

Then we thought about why materials sometimes need to be waterproof. Miss Livesey gave us a challenge to make a paper towel waterproof so we used oil pastels to create a waterproof layer and tested this using pipettes full of water.

Charlotte's mummy then came in to talk about her Scottish heritage and to share traditional Scottish shortbread and tiffin.
