Charity Work
As part of our learning about our Christian Values, the children of Ilmington C of E Primary School (led by the House Captains) work throughout the year to organise and participate in events to raise money for charity. This helps us to develop our understanding of Service, Thankfulness, Compassion, Friendship, Peace, Hope, Fellowship, Forgiveness and Reconciliation as well as Love and Respect through our actions.
At the beginning of the year, the children in each house vote for the charity that they would like to raise money for throughout the year. The charities that were chosen this year are:
Tigers- Open Doors Our international charity
Lions- The Shakespeare Hospice Our local charity
Elephants- The RSPB Our national charity

We also fundraise throughout the year for other charities, such as Children in Need and Comic Relief. Last year, we raised £132.00 for Children in Need when we all came to school wearing something spotty! In November, the House Captains sold poppies, wrist bands and stickers for the annual Poppy Appeal. They raised £95.50 for the Royal British Legion!
We were visited by Jo from Open Doors who explained about the work they do in supporting persecuted Christians and how difficult it is to be a Christian in many countries around the world. One assembly was led by a representative from The Shakespeare Hospice who talked about the work this charity does to support many people who may be needing help through a difficult period in their life. Mr Howard came to tell us about the history and work of the RSPB and shared how he has been involved in this vital charity for many years.
The House Captains organised a colour run to celebrate Holi in our Celebration of Colours Week, which raised £2828 for the charities. The Jazz Class children made samosas and they raised £39.05 when they sold these on the playground.
